Visits from Heaven

When we were young, my family would get together (rotating among all the aunts and uncle's houses) and celebrate birthdays, anniversarys, holidays, etc. A typical get together for all of us cousings included hanging out, playing games, basketball, swimming, etc. Our parents sat around and played card games and chatted.

Last night I dreamt of one of those wonderful family get togethers. We were at my uncle's house and the scene above was just as I remembered. My Dad and Aunt Marion (who have both passed away) were there too! Food and drink was being served. Everyone was happy, talking, laughing. Except Dad and Aunt Marion. I sat next to my Dad and started talking and he just smiled. He was sitting out the couch with his legs crossed. He waved to a few people, but no words would come out of his mouth. Dad had on a cool western shirt and jeans and boots. Aunt Marion was sitting on the couch as well and crocheting and she was also smiling. Again, no words. She had bright red nail polish on.

It was a frustratingly bitter-sweet dream. Although, one I will cherish and remember forever.
